Queen Sirikit National Convention Center has initiated an ongoing campaign for environmental conservation by reducing energy consumption and improving the environment within the Center, entitled “Green Venue for Green Meetings/Green Exhibitions”. Aimed at encouraging event organizers, visitors and the general public to utilize natural resources for sustainability, the campaign’s action plan is divided into five categories, as follows: |
| 1. |
Energy: |
|
- Switch off unnecessary lights during lunch break
- Lower air-conditioner usage in event and office areas by 30-50% during lunch breaks
- Set air-conditioner thermostats at 25 degrees Celsius
- Install sunshield window film to reduce heat throughout the Center
- Install an Energy Management unit in the Control Room
- Install sensors to power down escalators automatically when not in use
|
| 2. |
Environment: |
|
- Install digital signs to display meeting room information instead of paper/plastic signage
- Increase green areas throughout the exterior grounds by planting trees and shrubs
- Use left-over fruit and vegetables to make Effective Micro-organisms (EM) for trees and plants within the Center
and to give to employees and visitors for their own environmental action
- Cash cards to replace coupons in all dining areas
|
| 3. |
Meetings (Convention/Exhibition): |
|
- Serve 0-part-per-million filtered water to participants from pitchers instead of bottled water
- Decorate with ornamental trees and plants in place of flowers
- Re-usable rubber coasters to replace disposable paper coasters
- Sugar to be served in jars to reduce use of wasteful packets
|
| 4. |
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility):
|
|
- N.C.C.-TTM Mini-Marathon Chalerm Phrakiart on Mother’s Day in honor of Her Majesty the Queen
- ‘Love Sharing Market’ project to benefit disadvantaged children
- Donate used vegetable oil for bio-diesel production
- Donate aluminum can tabs to aid prosthetic limb manufacturing
|
| 5. |
Others:
|
|
- Organize training seminars for employees to encourage environmental awareness and care among staff members
|
|
All these actions are practical and already receive wholehearted support and cooperation from all concerned parties. By implementing these actions, QSNCC hopes to help reduce global warming. The success already achieved proves that organizers, visitors and the general public are strongly behind our campaign to make QSNCC a green venue for the MICE industry in Thailand.
